With our newly passed Leadership Transition plan, FWB is moving into a new era of decentralized leadership, and we’re about to elect FWB’s first-ever five-person Community Council. It’s a historic moment.
Once elected, the Council’s main responsibility will be to listen to, advocate for, and develop proposals with FWB members—and then work with a new Mayor (who they’ll be approving) and Core Team to execute passed proposals. In other words, the Council’s job is to develop and enact strategies that keep the Mayor, Core Team, and FWB community in sync, while holding contributors accountable for their work. The end goal of all of this, of course, is to give FWB a leadership structure that enables it to continue forward as a thriving, sustainable, and pioneering digital-born community.
We are now tasked with electing our five-person Council from a high-caliber roster of self-nominated candidates. The following FWB members have put their names forward for consideration, and below we’ve shared their answers to why they want to be a part of the Council, and what they hope to prioritize if elected.
We encourage all FWB members and $FWB holders to review the candidates’ responses in full to learn more about their experience, expertise, and vision for FWB.
*A note on the election process: As per the Leadership Transition proposal, this will be a 1-wallet-1-vote, ranked-choice Snapshot vote.
Without further ado, here are FWB’s Community Council Candidates, included in alphabetical order:
Candidate: Brendan Donovan (Brendan-Bastion)

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
I'm well spoken, a good writer, and enjoy connecting with people. I am an artist and web3 professional/enthusiast based in NYC. I see things clearly, without prejudice, and believe I would be a strong asset both in representing (demanding, if necessary) the will of the community to the team AND vouching for the team when they say "trust us" (if they deserve it).
I would push for more transparency from the core team. I also have ideas to help monetize the FWB brand that I would explore with the team, and would help facilitate any conversations between members with similar ideas and the team.
While I may not have been here since the very beginning, I've attended both FESTs and consider the experience, innovation, and spirit of those events to be a guiding star for our community to strive for in all our endeavors.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
- Increased transparency from core team
- Increasing runway / Achieving sustainability for FWB
- this begins with selecting/approving a Mayor who will be best suited to this task, as it is the most existential/urgent issue we face.
- this will also involve tapping into the ideas & talents of our community for inspiration, consultation, etc.
- Ensure the continuation and improvement of FEST
- Improve new member "initiation"/onboarding
- Explore/optimize/execute HYP's "Tapping into the Collective Talents of FWB"
- Improve the FWB app experience, based on what members want from it

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
I believe in the power of this community and its potential to redefine the intersection of technology, art, and culture. Having been with FWB since day 1, I've seen first-hand the incredible diversity of ideas, perspectives, and creativity within our group. I’d love to help amplify these voices and initiatives to a broader audience.
My experience working in tech/web3 as a venture capitalist and a product leader has made me familiar with the challenges we'll face as we aim to evolve FWB and build a sustainable, long-lasting institution. I understand how to navigate the broader Web3 industry and how we can strategically position the work that we’re doing to achieve our goals.
The true strength of FWB lies in our community. As an active listener and participant, I would bring these insights to the Council. It's not just about putting forward proposals but also about surfacing the best ones that deeply resonate with our members and align with our shared goals. While it's crucial to stay focused on our mission, it's equally important to explore new paths. I am extremely excited about growing the use case of the $FWB token and securing our place as leaders in this evolving space.
Overall, I see myself as a bridge between the day-to-day pulse of our community and the highest levels of our governance. I’ll bring a steady hand, a clear focus, and an unwavering dedication to expanding FWB’s role in bringing together the individuals, squads, and institutions using decentralized technology to build a better internet.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
I have three main priorities:
⚖️ Managing the organizational transition:
- Ensure a smooth transition: Support the Mayor and Core Team to ensure the organization functions smoothly. In practice, this means maintaining robust lines of communication, working closely with the old and new Mayor, and ensuring that there's a common understanding of the challenges and path forward.
- Keep us focused: As the first-ever Community Council, it is important that we set the tone for how the Community Council operates. We’ll set KPIs, track them, and ensure we’re effective in our key responsibilities.
🥇 Championing the community:
- Promote and celebrate the community: Create new ways to highlight our community: the individuals, squads, and institutions using decentralized technology to build a better internet. We’ll do this both within our platform and within the broader Web3 space.
- Ensure effective implementation of approved proposals: Ensure the community's needs are heard and represented. Through collaboration with the Mayor and Core Team, we’ll ensure that approved proposals are effectively carried out.
- Community feedback: Maintain open communication channels with the community, encouraging insights and feedback to develop actionable proposals. One of our KPIs will be to increase the number of high-quality proposals and their funding.
🌱 Growing FWB:
- Expand the community: Continue to be a welcoming home for creatives and artists venturing into Web3. This will involve actively promoting and implementing programs like the revised fellowships program and supporting the shift to NFT-based membership.
- Create new use cases for the $FWB token: Prioritize drafting and funding proposals to explore new use cases for the $FWB token, like the Restock Protocol Proposal. To extend the token's reach and effectiveness, we'll need robust, adaptable policies that members can rally behind.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
I want to help turn FWB into becoming a sustainable institution, even if it means radically altering the status quo.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
I will lead the effort to progressively decentralize FWB. The first step towards that is getting our burn rate down to a sustainable rate which will allow us to thrive as a cultural institution for many years to come. The next step is designing new systems that can semi-autonomously align incentives for DAO labor with actual DAO performance.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
I feel that I am a perfect fit for FWB Community Council, as I am unbiased, ethical, and ascertain strong leadership skills. Also, I am a creative who enjoys working and collaborating with others and someone who happens to be deeply in love with blockchain technology.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
Talk to the community about what our goals are as a whole. Limit any liabilities or problematic issues our community may currently have or could have in the future. Come up with ideas to generate income. Plan our checks and balances procedures. Work with other professionals with experience in all of these areas.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
FWB has provided me an immense amount of value in terms of coordinating the kinds of people I want to know/ work with. I think I have a really strong sense of what FWB can provide at its best and would love to have a role in representing that. I think my path to web 3 is unique but also representative of many members—musician/writer to online gambler to project founder. FWB has helped me navigate web3, but also find a creative community in a time when creative scenes are increasingly diffuse and under-resourced. I think my experience with FWB has shown me some of the best things it has to offer, and I spend a lot of time thinking about what we could do to make everyone's experience more like mine.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
My main personal priorities would be figuring out some better ways to connect members of the DAO to one another, figuring out an information flow that keeps people apprised of important developments, and making it clear what people have power to do within the org. The first step for all of these would be working with the community to figure out existing pain points, and then the council could go about floating some potential fixes. I think all of these lend themselves to continued experimentation and multiple approaches, but it makes the most sense to start with the community and go from there.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
i've lived and breathed web3 since I joined FWB in 2021. its always stood as my north star in what a brilliant web3 community can look like. i'm stoked about the possibility of joining the FWB Community Council because I see it as an opportunity to infuse more energy, expression, and fun into the DAO. i believe having a blast and cultivating a sense of community can coexist with serious decision-making, and I'm eager to help strike that balance.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
- find creative and unique strategic partnerships to help build the treasury
- create wayyyy more IRL events for well represented cities without relying on event keys
- create unique marketing material to illustrate our resilience and activity during the bear market

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
I am applying to be on the FWB Community Council because I would like to do everything that I can to ensure that FWB continues to stay alive, and in particular, that it remains true to the original ethos that brought everyone together here (i.e. “the anti-crypto crypto crew”).
As a member of the council, I would ensure to assess all of the opportunities that are presented to the DAO (business and otherwise) via the above lens – to ensure that FWB stays true to its original mission while also factoring in the needs of running a sustainable project and ensuring that the voices of engaged community members are heard. I also think that it will be important to re-build trust with many of the DAOs original community members to let them know that any future proposals and surveys are not simply smoke and mirrors while the DAO continues to move in a pre-determined direction.
To this point, and as someone who has contributed to the DAO, I would also like to work on refining operational practices and documentation (particularly in regards to hiring and firing) as well as re-invigorating our approach to community proposal creation. Having said this, I sincerely appreciate all of the documents and frameworks that have been created to date as I believe that FWB has pioneered much of the thinking that takes place in a non-protocol DAO.
I believe that many of the members here will go on to do amazing things in and outside of FWB and would like to help continue building FWB’s lore as one of the foundational communities of the new internet.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
If elected to the Community Council, my main priority will be to help the Mayor and core team figure out a path to sustainability while always doing my best to ensure that the original ethos of FWB is not lost.
While I do not want to get bogged down in surveys and community calls, I really do believe that the first step would be to have a community call with a reinvigorated mayor, core and council and to let the community know that they do in fact have a voice in where the DAO is going.
I also believe that we should revisit FWB’s original bread and butter in the events space and that we should likely pursue partnerships as the cultural curator for a handful of crypto conferences that make sense and align with FWBs brand.
While it was always suggested that FWB could potentially serve as a headless creative agency, the framework for this was never truly established and I believe that this is another pathway that could be explored. I also believe that partnerships will continue to be integral to FWB’s revenue model and I have full confidence in Greg’s ability to execute in this space as virtually all of the programs that he has lead (in particular – City Keys) have had thorough processes, documentation, expectations, and reporting on results.
Finally, there were some amazing threads in late 2021 (many by Nic H and Brian Mark) that detailed a handful of approaches and potential revenue streams and I would love to revisit those.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
- As a duo, we bring >18 yrs experience across ecosystem growth, venture building, startups, research, decentralizing protools & diplomacy.
- We want to bring our knowledge, networks & capital to FWB. We want to do this as duo spliiting responsibilities & bringing double bang for the buck because:
- We've known each other intimately 9+ years - studied, worked, built cos/startups & done cool shit like climbing many of the 7 summits together as a duad
- Together we currently run the the ecosystem growth & early-stage investment engine at Protocol Labs; where we've successfully scaled category-leading protocols including IPFS, Filecoin, libp2p, FVM & more
- We both feel passionately that FWB brand & people are super undervalued, we wanna deepen our exposure to FWB ecosystem to help change that
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
Act simultaneously a trusted adviser to incoming Mayor, balanced instrument among other Council members & reflective voice of the wider FWB community.
Main priorities would be split between long hanging fruits & longer-term ambitions.
Low hanging fruits:
- Under new leadership, clarifying top objectives with clear timelines against each so community can benchmark what good looks like
- Deepen exposure to active governance & members driving those discussions
- Strengthen existing FWB moats, e.g. around on-chain culture / cool
- Enhance foundational community infrastructure - governance, economics etc.
- Identify new pools for growth for memberships, partnerships & programs (e.g. becoming the home of cultural builders)
Longer-term ambitions would stem from early priorities, ensuring FWB can deliver on it's vision to create a better internet compounding connections, creativity & socio-cultural compositions.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
As part of the five-seat council I bring 2.5 years of experience in the DAO as a member and contributor. This includes hosting 5 events (1 lite key, 4 event keys including 2 upcoming) bringing FWB members together IRL and attending others in Miami, NYC, LA, and Mexico. In LA I organized a toy drive with Joey Rubin, Alex Hooven, and the squad in late 2021 and drove 100s of toys that evening across the border to kids in Tijuana. All this is to say, I value the confluence of URL/IRL meetups and I take the time and energy to execute on them as well. With my work building communities back up after disasters with World Central Kitchen globally, or hosting 30+ URL/IRL events the last 18 months with Arkive's community, I think my perspective on how to engage people URL/IRL speaks for itself.
I maintain a good rapport with members in FWB both in the DAO and those who crossover in other DAOs and orgs like Boys Club, Krause House, and Arkive. I've brought people in to all of them from each other, and am an active contributor in all of them.
I maintain good relationships with many members who I consider friends, especially since I've met so many IRL, and I can say the same about core. I've worked directly or indirectly with most, especially Izzy and Greg, spent a good amount of time with Raihan and members in LA, hosted events with Zhang in CDMX, and have known Jose for probably 13 years. When I see people have conversations that can be disrespectful or go sideways, I work on diffusing those situations and mediating, even if sometimes privately. I think that goes a long way into maintaining productive relationships and forward momentum with this new structure where members will entrust the council to communicate a lot on their behalf. I'm no stranger to this whether managing Arkive's community expectations or managing 15 employees at a large NGO and working in their best interests with the executive team above. It's all related IMO.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
- actively engage community in council / core / mayoral affairs so they trust the system being adopted
- continue to show up, promote, execute, and attend IRL events in any city or country I'm at that has FWB members and represent the council
- represent the membership to core and mayor in good faith, acting on community global interests
- steward and encourage new or legacy members on the benefits and ease of working with FWB on events or proposals so more people feel involved, especially members who may have declined to participate fully before due to noise/overwhelming vibe of a busy Discord
- execute the above especially with regards to legacy (events/Gateeeper) uses of $FWB but also develop new use cases by encouraging community input
- maintain active and respectful relationships with membership, mayor and core
- use the approved Snapshot proposal as a template with which to engage both core and membership with the knowledge that the roles and responsibilities will evolve
- ensure some of the key ways of participating in FWB are continually surfaced to the community, and encourage more activity from the community to propose new modes of interacting with the DAO

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
I want to be on the Community Council because I believe my experience with developmental psychology and time working in web3 will be an essential tool in understanding what role FWB can play in the intersection of web3 and culture, as well as how to help the community achieve its own goals within that context
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
Main priorities will be keeping up with initiatives, vibes, and being an open channel to understand what people want and expect, what the DAO can do for the community, and how to synthesize that into ideas and plans.
I'd do that by keeping up with the Discord, making it known that people can talk to me about the vibes or ideas they have, and being a voice of advocacy both for the DAO and the members.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
I believe in the power of this community to create a long-lasting impact across the industries in which we are present and to give value to our members, and opportunities for them to generate impact - through, from, and for FWB.
To achieve this there is the need to take measures that ignite this potential, and address the diversity (current and potential) of our community.
I will make this happen through a multi-level approach to problem solving. Going from shaping abstract ideas towards actionable points, supporting their execution, and actively working with members and communities in these processes. For this to be successful, we need to implement systems that encourage independence but also offer support, guidance and/or assistance depending on the needs and circumstances of each member or group.
By being a council member, I will work for members to get fruitful outcomes that cater to their interests from their membership, and enrich FWB as a whole. I strongly believe being a member of FWB should be a fun, impactful and creative social experience. For this, I'm bringing a problem-solving and consensus driven mindset, with a broad experience of making things actually happen.
Finally, I have a life experience that can help amplify FWBs network towards the Spanish-speaking world, particularly Latin America. This is the place where I live and where I am from, and reaching out to Latin American members, activating our networks and starting new FWB IRL experiences, is a big component of what I want to accomplish with my participation in the Community Council.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
As a Community Council member, I'll address the role on 3 different levels: inside the council, towards the community, and outwards to the public.
First, for the council to be successful, it is necessary for it to be a consensus-reaching organism that is able to think and execute in a dynamic environment. For this, I propose
- An action plan for each council member focused on differentiated work fronts to provide the most value for the community.
- A transparent working system and public meetings focused on member involvement and creating clear, consensual courses of action.
- Increased accountability through quarterly goals with action points for Council and Core team members, published and periodically reviewed with advancements.
Second, to deepen the impact of our membership, I foster an approach that addresses diversity and creates further outcome decentralization through
- Co-creation and co-implementation of members' proposals if needed.
- Implementing systems that complement the ones we already have for proposal-making and execution, opening towards quick experimentation with FWB enhancing proofs of concept.
- Actively reach out to members in under-active geographies to activate networks and foster collaboration.
Third, to further amplify FWB's impact as a social network for creatives and technologists, I vouch for
- FWB to be present in art/crypto events in Latin America, through member and core-organized events, talks, or brand placements.
- Reaching out to potential members in Latin America to invite them to apply for FWB membership or fellowship program.
- A system to promote members' personal and collective works through FWB's media.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
I want to help secure FWB’s position as the north start of internet culture. I believe culture drives all tech adoption and I watched first-hand how creatives and athletes who had never heard of crypto jump through the hoops to spin up a wallet just for the chance to be part of FWB. Our community has a powerful role to play in the coming tech evolution and I want to nourish our corner of the internet.
I believe I can bring operational and financial experience via my background in startups and investing. Preparing FWB for the next phase of sustainable growth.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
My priorities would include focusing on reducing our burn rate, generating new revenue opportunities, and integrating FWB into more cultural conversations outside of crypto twitter.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
I want to develop community initiatives for both new and existing members. My goal is to bring value to all members and assist in onboarding newcomers into the community. I will actively engage with the community, carefully listen to their feedback, and strive to take meaningful actions based on that feedback.
I am well-suited for this role due to my extensive experience and skills that align with FWB. I will collaborate closely with the team and the community to ensure that members' voices are heard, and our governance discussions have a significant impact. I aim to participate in regular discussions with the team, celebrate the achievements of community members, and explore growth opportunities that can benefit the community and DAO. I am more than willing to dedicate additional time to provide assistance in any capacity where it is needed.
My background encompasses strategy, operations, events, and community management. I am eager to support the core team with any initiatives or tasks that may arise, assist in coordinating programming and festivals, respond to the needs of community members, and serve as an 'ambassador' for FWB.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
I want to expand on the encouraged behavior outlined in FWBs code of conduct…
- Collaborating with other community members
- Gracefully accepting constructive criticism
- Focusing on what is best for the community
- Approaching and listening to others in good faith and leading with empathy
Long term, I want to develop different objectives & tasks, plan them out and execute. This could be kick starting editorial again, limited merch drops for members, member spotlights/interviews, artist interviews, assist in City Keys execution etc. Long term goals may change if elected to council depending on information discussed/shared after election. Would love to implement more coverage of events/documentation, this goes hand in hand with editorial. Ultimately I want to align activities with the goals and roadmap of the DAO and/or future development.
I've mentioned this in a call/chat before but I do believe there are different groups of members in the community. OGs, Bought the Top, Bear Market and New Members. I want to bring value to everyone in someway and develop goals long term.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
This may sound like a late-night infomercial but as I said above, FWB changed my life. It onboarded me to a new industry and equipped me with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a role within the industry. I want to create space for more transformations like this to occur, and if creating this space means assisting in its guidance, then I'm up for the task.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
Kind of alluded to this above but my main priority would be to listen, observe, and communicate with active members of the DAO to see where I can be of assistance. I'm not totally clear on the day-to-day of the council's responsibilities at this point. I'll figure that out.
Some key priorities of mine: Sustainability, leveraging and maintaining our favorable brand positioning to bring more value to our network, recognizing talent and willingness to contribute to the DAO from within our member base and bringing opportunities to those members.
I will say that I would be coming into this position reluctantly. I don't really want or need this council position but feel like I would do a good job, and if the community would like me to serve in this role then I would commit to doing this well.

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
The purpose behind everything I do is to bring people together and make them feel like a part of something! ♥️
As a council member, I’m looking to make an impact by building robust communications systems for FWB and implementing changes that have crystallized from conversations I've had with the community.
I would like to:
- clarify where/how we communicate updates, information, etc.
- establish communications processes
- set expectations (and follow through on them!)
With the purpose of:
- Organizing and incentivizing participation across all brand touchpoints (socials, FEST, TL;DR, the FWB app, etc.)
- Increasing transparency, accountability, and trust among members and team
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
• Working cross-functionally to plan content calendar and strategy across all brand touchpoints and channels, including realistic cadence
• Revisit member lifecycle documents (i.e. application form, acceptance notification, welcome/onboarding materials, policy & procedure)
• Write documentation clarifying the member-to-contributor pipeline
• Rewrite job descriptions for core team
• Remap website navigation and rewriting website content
• Revisit all forms (budget spreadsheet, proposal submissions, etc.) and revamping if necessary
• Potentially update member directory if that is something people still want

Why do you want to be on the FWB Community Council? What do you think you’d bring to the table as part of the five-seat council?
Joining the council feels like an exciting opportunity to contribute to FWB and bring more of the community back into it. Since joining the DAO I’ve been able to contribute to both versions of Fest, the Cafe 11 collaboration and create proposals for v2 of the fellowships program that passed.
Being on the council would allow me the opportunity to not only spearhead community proposals but also to help make them successful. Creating a proposal can be a daunting process and I would like to ensure that we set folks up for success.
Long term, I would also like to foster a community where folks are as curious as they are kind. Where the tenor at which we deal with tough conversations is that of we’re on the same team versus at each other's throats and one where we have an opportunity to have more fun with one another.
If elected to the Community Council, what will your main priorities be?
Community: Aside from elevating community proposals, I would like to either provide direct mentorship to other creatives or create some kind of initiatives where community members are paired up and get to connect with one another. This could look like ongoing opportunities for members to connect - Monthly zoom calls over voice chat in discord to allow more human connection through breakout sessions and prompts that folks can reflect on. Additionally, I would offer up leading ongoing mindfulness moments or curating some kind of wellness retreat for folks.
Proposals: Dialing in on creating feedback loops where members feel not only excited to create proposals but they feel excited to execute on them as well. I know the DAO has tried many interactions of giving grants etc and it has always felt as though there have been no real guardrails for successful income. I think its great to give out money and either it needs to be specified as though it is just a grant that folks can do with what they want - An older nft pfp project I was part of during the Bull market would give away x amount of eth a month and folks would answer questions on what they would want to do with the money. There wasn’t directly a tie back into the particular project, but it was a way of seeding people to learn, pay a medical bill, etc. That might be a nice way to support the community without an expectation of ROI. Or if there is an expectation of ROI better guardrails should be put in place to help people succeed.
Content: FWB does such a great job of having events see Fest or Cafe11 and yet that content is rarely repurposed accessibly. I think about the amazing programming that was recorded and live streamed for Cafe11 and yet after the event that content doesn’t live anywhere. I would like to utilize my 12 years in editorial to help FWB with its content. I had worked on a proposal for Friends with Curiosity- A podcast with benefits. Maybe there could be a moment to run that back.
