Jose Fernandez da Ponte
Jose Fernandez da Ponte is SVP and GM of blockchain, crypto, and digital currencies (BCDC) at PayPal. Fernandez da Ponte joined PayPal in June 2019 and assumed his current role in January 2021. Prior to this position, he led PayPal’s Global Business Development team, started the company’s early efforts in crypto and participated in PayPal’s geographic expansion to China and Latin America. He has been involved in cryptocurrencies since 2015, including as EVP of the New Digital Businesses unit of BBVA driving financial applications of decentralized protocols. He is a member of the Global Future Council on Cryptocurrencies at the World Economic Forum and part of the Advisory Board at Blockchain Capital.
In addition to his work on digital currencies, he has 15 years of experience in payments and banking in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America. Before PayPal and BBVA, he was a consultant with McKinsey & Company and a member of the Board of Directors of low-cost airline clickair.
