Tue Jul 25 2023
In a matter of days, practically the entire web3 space will descend upon the forested mountain town of Idyllwild, CA to come together for FWB FEST. From renowned platforms like OpenSea and Base, to DAOs like Boys Club, Refraction, and PartyDAO, to collectives like Metalabel and cultural organizations like Rhizome, this year’s FEST partner and collaborator lineup reads like a veritable who’s-who of the new internet.
Before we all pack our sun hats, notebooks, and hardware wallets and set sail for FEST23, we’re sharing the full lineup of collaborator programming so you can begin prioritizing your must-see, must-meet lists in advance.
Below is a rundown of the 36 (!) partner communities coming to FEST, what they’re getting up to, and how you can participate. We're also including the *tentative* schedule for all of FEST (not just partner and collaborator activations), so you can see what's planned for the entire weekend of music, culture, and ideas—all in one place:
Pssst, maybe you don’t have a FEST pass yet? All are welcome, so grab your pass here before they sell out. You can also read more about the culture and lore surrounding FEST, check out the schedule, and get info on lodging, transportation, and more via the FAQs on the FEST site.
COLLABORATOR ACTIVATIONS
Seed Club — Consumer Crypto Summit
Seed Club will be taking over the library at the Idyllwild Arts Academy for the duration of FEST to host EYEWITNESS LIVE, the year’s most important gathering on consumer crypto. Attendees can expect three days of conversation and connections with the leading builders, investors, and early adopters in the space, all aimed at sparking a critical new wave of consumer-crypto development. Space in the library is limited, so advance registration is strongly encouraged. Get more info + register to attend here.
Base – Keynote + Team Offsite
The entire Base team will be descending on Idyllwild to work in-person together as they move their much-anticipated L2 chain towards launch. Alpha alert: If you’re hungry for insider news on the launch, don’t miss the keynote from Base lead and FWB member Jesse Pollak.
OpenSea — NFT Gallery
Last year, OpenSea worked with FWB to curate and install “The Flock,” a gallery space highlighting the work of 10 amazing artists including Sarah Zucker, Ezra Miller, and Niall Ashley. This year, the OpenSea gallery returns with a twist as they highlight different use cases of NFTs through the lens of innovative primary drops, while also showcasing pieces by top artists—including a custom piece made just for FWB Fest. OpenSea will also join us on the MainStage with talks from their Chief Business Officer, Shiva Rajaraman, and their Head of Community, Stevey Tromberg.
Rhizome — Curated Film Series
Inspired by the 1980’s New York underground film movement, Rhizome has curated three hour-long screenings for FEST-goers, all under the umbrella of “Cinema of Transmission.” Escape the heat and let your mind slip off into movie land.
PartyDAO — Tennis Tournament
You’re invited to PartyDAO’s Idyllwild Invitational, a tournament that blends the excitement of competitive tennis with the tranquil ambiance of nature. For those who are ready to step onto the court, we encourage you to sign up to play here. If you’re just interested in watching or grabbing a limited-edition tee, matches will take place throughout the weekend, with the much-anticipated finals happening right before FEST draws to a close on Sunday.
Boys Club — Trivia Night
Calling all ✨big brains✨ to a Boys Club-led trivia night about "everything from Real Housewives to LLaMA to zk-SNARKs." Trivia Night happens on Thursday, and you can score some sweet Boys Club and FWB merch—members and early arrivals welcome.
Mirage — AR Scavenger Hunt
Mirage will be hosting an augmented reality scavenger hunt on campus, allowing everyone to find and collect digital art from the FWB community within a hidden virtual world. All you’ll need is your smartphone to find easter eggs across the FEST campus, so make sure to come fully charged.
Refraction / HNT Labs — Late-Night Dance Party
Refraction and HNT Labs will be combining their powers to take over the late-night stage on Saturday, keeping energy levels high with two straight hours of back-to-back bangers via a DJ set from DOSS. Stay hydrated and make sure to pick your designated driver if your lodging isn’t walkable from the shuttle!
POAP — Proof-of-Attendance
Want to memorialize your weekend in Idyllwild with onchain proof-of-attendance? Be sure to claim a POAP, designed by FWB members Fabiola Larios and Moises Sanabria, while you’re touching grass.
Uniswap — Liquidity Pool Party
Closing out FEST23, Uniswap is bringing the Liquidity Pool to Idyllwild. Cool off with a swim and take in sun-soaked DJ sets, all from the comfort of your unicorn floaty.
WELLNESS ACTIVITIES
Envelop — Immersive Listening Stage
Envelop is bringing their mobile immersive listening space to the woods of Idyllwild. Pristine spatial sound and audio-reactive lights will combine to create a beautiful and powerful space where attendees can vibe together and connect with the music on a deeper level. Experience Envelop throughout the weekend with live sets by Christopher Willits, Nate Boyce, Jordan Ponciano (Bracknell TV), Adware (Vitamin1000), stud1nt, Rieder, Igama, SoFFT, DJ AIDS-3D—plus special sound baths by Envelop and yoga and meditations hosted by Sinikiwe, Mike St-Jean, and Lori Ann Ferreri.
Lens — Meditation Garden
On Saturday at noon, head to the Envelop stage to experience the Lens Meditation Garden and find yourself a moment of tranquility. FWB member & artist Telefon Tel Aviv will lead a relaxing sound meditation to help us prepare for the big-brain day ahead.
Firefly — Gentle Yoga + Movement Practice
On Friday morning, early risers are invited to a restorative yoga session and music experience on the Envelop Stage led by Sinikiwe Stephanie Dhliwayo and presented by Firefly Web3 Social Aggregator. At the same time on Saturday morning, join Firefly for a movement practice hosted by Sinikiwe and Lori Ann Ferreri. Both sessions are intended for all levels, and you don’t need any special equipment (mats will be provided).
COLLABORATOR-LED WORKSHOPS
Highlight — NFT Workshop
Highlight’s one-of-a-kind generative NFT software is coming to FEST with a hands-on artist-led workshop. Andrew Benson, aka Pixlpa, will co-host this experience with the Highlight team. Attendees can expect to dig into tooling, using data to make art, and how to unleash their creativity onchain. The group will also work together to create and mint a brand-new artwork during the workshop, so come ready to make some collaborative art. You can also catch the Highlight team at a special happy hour session Friday night after the launch.
Metalabel — Collaboration Cookbook + Live Editing Session
Ahead of FEST, our friends at Metalabel have been hard at work assembling a “collaboration cookbook.” Exploring the ways that creative work and people come together, this publication will include interviews and instructive essays to inform a wide range of creative practice and endeavors. Then on Saturday afternoon, join Austin Robey on-site at FEST for an editing session where we’ll decide what makes the final cut.
Are.na — FEST Zine Making
How will you remember FEST23? On the last day of FEST, Designer Mindy Seu and Are.na co-founder Charles Broskoski will host an interactive session using print.are.na, a tool allowing you to create personalized mini-publications from any Are.na board. You can make a scrapbook or zine of your FEST iPhone pics, or self-publish your FEST diary—whatever your little Are.na-loving heart desires.
Cabin — Community Bonding Experience
Cabin will facilitate an experience where FWB community members can share and reflect on transformational periods in their lives. This exercise will help attendees to explore their own experiences and backgrounds, while gaining insights and understanding into the experiences of others. Overall, the session will cultivate a sense of belonging across attendees, and within the FWB community more broadly.
Future Primitive — Beaded Talisman Workshop
Meet the Future Primitive crew for a chance to join the colorful BeadDAO by making your very own unique lizard ERC-6551 lizzy. Find some new friends, identify fellow BeadDAO members throughout FEST, and flex your arts and crafts skills.
USB Club — USB File Drop
Somewhere between burned CDs and cold wallets, one piece of hardware still holds a special place in our hearts: the USB stick. Join the USB Club at FEST23 on Friday and Saturday evening and bring your keychain’s favorite accessory to the Transfer Station for an exclusive file drop.
The Park — Collaborative Song Creation
The Park is an onchain music collective using Nouns Builder to decentralize the process of creation, curation, and collection. At FEST, they'll be facilitating collaborative song creation, serving decentralized coffee, and more—which the Builder DAO community approved as a proposal. :)
COLLABORATOR-LED TALKS
Polygon — The Future of Community + Commerce
Our hit Required Reading discussion series from last year’s FEST is back, and Polygon will be leading a session that digs into the ways that consumerism, commerce, and community are intersecting within web3. This discussion will include Sinikiwe Stephanie Dhliwayo (Naaya Wellness/FWB), Jac Vaca (Polygon), and Parker Jay-Pachirat (Boys Club).
We also have an exciting announcement to share alongside the Polygon team—FEST attendees will hear it first on the mainstage, and get a chance to meet the Polygon team at a day’s-end happy hour on Saturday in the main theatre lobby
Livepeer and Zora Zine — Media’s “On-Chain Moment”
Join Livepeer and Zora Zine for a Required Reading session unpacking the real possibilities for distribution, monetization, and collaboration unlocked by web3.
ConsenSys — Members-Only Conversation
The team at ConsenSys will present a Required Reading session during FWB Members Day on Thursday that digs into what it means to be a “builder” in 2023.
Byline — MainStage Talk with Zora Zine
Catch the Byline team Gutes Guterman and Megan O'Sullivan on the mainstage with Zora Zine for a discussion on what it means to make media in 2023. Ahead of FEST, you can also read a selection of our members’ heatwave hot-takes published on Byline.
Syndicate — Roundtable Discussion
Last year, we collectively dug into the future potential of NFTs in a standing-room-only session. This year, Syndicate, Seed Club, Boys Club, and FWB will come together for an intimate roundtable discussion on the future of brands, consumer culture and crypto, asking the question—where will we go from here?
ADDITIONAL ACTIVATIONS
Base + mint.fun — FEST Livestreams
Although we’d love for every member of our internet collective to join us in-person, we know getting to Idyllwild isn’t a possibility for everyone. That’s why we’re thankful that Base and mint.fun is sponsoring live-streamed sessions throughout the weekend. Stay tuned to @FWBtweets for info on live-streamed sessions.
Crowdmuse + DECODE — Exclusive Merch
What’s a festival without FOMO-inducing merch? We’re collaborating with Crowdmuse + DECODE on a special merch drop with limited edition zero waste t-shirts designed in collaboration with the FWB community and a chance to collect on presale the custom FWB utility tote bag in collaboration with Crowdmuse, Tropical Futures Institute and dsptch.
Base + Uniswap — FEST Scholarships
Thanks to the generosity of FEST partners Base and Uniswap, we’re thrilled to present the FEST Scholarships initiative, through which we are distributing complimentary FEST passes to artists, students, and technologists.
FWB would like to extend an extra-special thanks to our additional partners Optimism, Evenings, and Early Majority for their generous support of FEST. We’d also like to thank Edge of NFT for bringing their podcast on site to capture stories from FEST.
We can’t wait to hang with all the above collaborating communities at FEST, and more. If you and your crew are also heading to FEST, let us know by tweeting at us—we’d love to say hi <3
